Local Scout Wins Area Pinewood Derby
Tuesday, April 15, 2008 • Posted April 14, 2008

The area Pinewood Derby was held in Marble Falls on Saturday, March 29. Two local Tiger Cub Scouts represented Blanco in this race. Joshua Neil and Jeremy Cloud are both first graders from Blanco Pack 497. They had their preliminary races in early March to determine who the top racers would be. Only the top three winners

from each pack were invited to attend the area race in Marble Falls.

In Marble Falls, there were a total of 34 boys racing their cars. The bracket was set up for double elimination. A boy and his competitor would be called to race their cars. Each boy would race on both sides of the track. If the two races were split, then a coin toss was used to determine which side of the track would be picked first. The winner of each race was determined by an electronic eye.

Jeremy Cloud was racing his 1950's turquoise pickup truck. He made it through five rounds before being eliminated. Jeremy ended up as one of the top 10 racers.

Joshua Neil was racing a sleek modern flat car design painted in bright green. Joshua made it all the way to the Championship round. Joshua's dad, Terry Neil, said "The last was pretty exciting as Joshua and the last boy were running for first place and they had to run five times as it was so close they could not determine who the winner was. Finally on the last run, Joshua edged him out about half inch. It was a lot of fun."

Congratulations to both Joshua and Jeremy for proudly representing Blanco.
