Blanco FFA Members Excel at Houston Livestock Show
Tuesday, April 15, 2008 • Posted April 14, 2008

As this year’s livestock show season has come to an end, several local FFA members closed out the year with high placing animals at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

Leading the way would be Senior Blanco FFA member Alisa Guler, who closed out her show career with a 2nd place AOB steer. Alisa’s ribbon came in the largest class of the show with 62 head competing for just 10 sale slots. As a result of her high placing, Alisa’s steer will now compete in the carcass contest with a chance to earn additional premium money. Also placing in the steer show was Kaleigh Anderson. Kaleigh would place her Brahman Cross steer 4th in the lightweight class.

The lamb show would see several more local exhibitors competing with junior FFA member Tyler Hardin making the sale and bringing home a 15th place ribbon in the Southdown Show.

Finally, Logan and Keaton Dodd would close out the final week of the show by placing two hogs in the sale. Logan would place 8th with his Chester White barrow, while his brother would place 9th in the same division.

While this marks the end of the 2007-2008 livestock show season, numerous local exhibitors have already begun preparations for next year’s shows. Advisors for the Blanco FFA and Blanco Junior FFA are Jason and Felice Marek.
