God's majesty fills the whole world.
To realize this is within our reach,
yet too often beyond our grasp.
There is no speech, there are no words,
the song of the heavens is beyond expression.
We sense and feel more than we comprehend,
too often we see, but do not understand.
Of what use are ears if the heart is hardened?
Of what use are eyes, if the heart is blind?
Can we escape God's spirit?
Can we avoid God's presence?
Compassion and goodness reveal that presence,
truth and forgiveness reflect the nearness of God.
The earth is filled with glory beyond awe,
the heavens declare it, vaulted skies sing.
Ye there is no music, no worship, no love,
when we take the world's majesty for granted.
Even wonder and amazement can hardly touch our soul
when we foret that they are guided by the hand of God.
Let us reach for that hand with all our being,
let us be held by that which we cannot hold.
Kadosh, kadosh, kadosh, holy, holy, holy
The world is filled with the rsonance of God's glory.
There is no speech, there are no words.
yet God has given each of us the ability to hear.
Let us open our eyes and rejoice to in God's work,
let us open our hearts and sing.
~from the Conservative prayer book Siddur Sim Shalom
I was thumbing through my prayer book a week ago and found this psalm and my heart danced with joy because of the wisdom and truth spoken here.
How often do we lose our excitement for the ways God reveals himself in this world? Especially when so many are waiting for what they think is the expected end of things. How unjust we can be in our service to God when we wait for destruction. Within chaos is beauty. Within oppression, inspiration can be found. You can locate peace anywhere in the world as long as the peace resides within you. Peace isn’t about location, it’s about heart condition. Have you lost optimism and belief in people? Have you endured enough hurt that you internalize all pain rather than discard it?
There is no singing without God... everything exists because of him. He has given us the ability to get through and beyond. I thank the God of the Jewish people and all creation for the ability he gives us to revel in life and all its beauty. This week I simply want to exhort you all to enjoy your lives... take some time to stop and sing to the Creator of all.
