She steps up to the mirror and studies herself. She smiles, and the image reflects back a smile. She extends her hand out, and the image extends a hand back to her. She picks up a glass of water and extends it towards the mirror, and the image extends a glass of water back to her. She waves and the image waves back to her. She looks away, and the image looks away. Everything we do in front of a mirror comes right back to us.
What if that’s what the Lord was trying to teach us? Isn’t that what Jesus taught us? That whatever we want others to do to us, we first must do it to others? He said “all things”.
Matthew 7:12 – “12Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”
If we want others to love us and treat us in a loving manner, first we must love others by treating them lovingly, and doing loving things for people. When we look at ourselves in a mirror, nothing happens until we make the first move. Think about it. Has your birthday gone past and no one remembered? Well, how about if we call up a few people we know to wish them happy birthday a few times and then see what happens next year. Isn’t that what He taught?
He said if we want someone to overlook our mistakes, and cut us some slack when we mess up, (in other words be merciful) that first we need to react mercifully to someone else. Help someone to not feel bad when they make a mistake, instead of rubbing it in or telling others about it.
Don’t let the devil tell you that you don’t need to be loving and merciful.
Those of us who believe in Jesus, are destined to be conformed to Jesus’ image, as it is written “29For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29
Follow what Jesus taught, and let the Lord fight your battles for you!
2 Chronicles 32:8 “8With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.”
Deuteronomy 28:7 “7The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.”
He also said we need to (FIRST) forgive other’s transgressions towards us, if we want the Lord to forgive us. Yes, we need to forgive, and remember, if you’re having difficulty, or if it feels humanly impossible, ask God to help. It is written “13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Phillipians 4:13
What else? Oh yes, we reap what we sow. That in itself sums it all up in a nutshell. Whatever we do, whether good or bad, will come back to us; so there’s the mirror effect.
Proverbs 11:18 “The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.”
Proverbs 22:8 “He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.”
Hosea 10:12 -“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.”
2 Corinthians 9:6 “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”
Passage Galatians 6:7 - “7Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
Galatians 6:8 – “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”
When you’re wondering what to do, go look in the mirror. What do you want others to do for you? Go do it first. Bless someone, and pray for others. Quit talking about people, and start being confidential. Quit telling lies, and only speak good things. Go look in the mirror and see what the Lord will bring to you, by your reflection. What do you see? That’s what we see.
Oh! And what about this one? Matthew 7:2 “2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.”
We know we’re ‘gonna be judged. Do you want to be judged the same way you judge others?
Well, Jesus said “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” Matthew 7:1
We can’t go wrong if we follow Jesus’ commandments. If we’re showing love to others who would want to hurt us? And we forget that God has promised all, if we follow His commandments, He will “cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face!”
Jesus said “19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:19
