Two PEC Members Recognized in Holiday Recipe Contest
Wednesday, December 9, 2009 • Posted December 8, 2009

Pedernales Electric members Lois Masters of San Marcos and Dena Whisenant Torres of Blanco have each been named runners-up in the Texas Co-op Power Holiday Recipe Contest, sponsored by the Texas Peanut Producers Board. Recipes had to include peanuts or a peanut product, such as peanut butter.

Masters and Torres each won $500, and their recipes appear in the December issue of Texas Co-op Power magazine. Masters’ recipe for Double Delight Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies and Torres’s recipe for Peanut Butter-Stuffed Jalapeños were two of the five best recipes chosen from more than 1,400 entries, a record for the magazine’s annual holiday contest.

Masters says the recipe for her sandwich cookie evolved over the years from a combination of recipes. “My husband loves peanut butter cookies, and he really likes this recipe!” she says.

Whisenant’s family also helped her develop her winning recipe. She and her son Brock, 11, often read the recipes featured in Texas Co-op Power together. “We love reading the magazine’s recipes, and the contest gave us a great chance to work together and create a unique recipe.”
