Hollywood Is Coming to Blanco
Wednesday, December 16, 2009 • Posted December 15, 2009

Paramount Pictures is coming to Central Texas for a remake of the feature film True Grit. The Academy Award-winning brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou, The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona), will be directing, with Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin starring in the film.

The Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society is pleased to announce that the Paramount production would like to use the Old Blanco County Courthouse for the courthouse scenes that take place in the film. Many details have yet to be worked out, but all parties are enthusiastic about a new role for the Old Courthouse. Filming is scheduled to take place in late April or May 2010.

OBCCPS plans to work with the Blanco Chamber of Commerce and City of Blanco officials to qualify Blanco for “Film Friendly Texas” certification. OBCCPS members recently attended a Texas Film Commission workshop, “When Hollywood Comes to Town,” presenting guidelines for attracting and working with all manner of film productions – movie, TV, commercials, and videos. The workshop also outlined the many benefits to the community from hosting filming activities.
