Sterling B. Harwell

Sterling B. Harwell was born in San Antonio on October 9,1917 and passed gently on to be with his Lord on Sunday, January 3, 2010. He was a much-beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Sterling Harwell’s military career began as an Army Lieutenant in the last fully mobile Army Calvary unit stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio. During WWII, he served in the Army-Air Corps as a tail-gunner instructor. His last post was as Provost Marshal at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, after which he retired with honors and a 26-year military career.

Sterling and his wife Cheri raised their ten children in Wimberley, Texas. Later, the family moved to nearby Blanco, where he was one of the friendliest mailmen and a member of the Methodist church.

Sterling is survived and dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Cheri Dawn; his children, Nina Sugarek, John, Jimmy, Bryan, Jana Black, Cathy Pickle, Glenn, Cheri Mayfield, Samantha Odell, Amber Nicholas; his 21 grandchildren and his 9 great-grandchildren... “PawPaw we know you’re riding through the Valley of Peace now.” He has joined his two deceased children Randy and Dawnette.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 7 at 10:00am at the Methodist church in Blanco followed by a light meal and graveside service at the family site in Pipe Creek, Texas at 2:30pm.
