Members of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas’ Dr. Wilhelm Keidel Chapter, Fredericksburg, will meet Monday, January 11, at 3:00pm at the home of Patricia McConnell. Phyllis Hazelett Malinak will be the guest speaker talking on her ancestry, interesting family history and her DRT connection. She will also offer a session on her class “Family History Online”. Ladies are reminded to encourage participation in the annual essay contest. Fourth grade topic is “Texas State Cemetery – Its Beginning” and the body of the essay should be between 500 and 525 words. The seventh grade topic is “Rip Ford” and the writing should be between 800 and 825 words. The local DRT Chapter will award cash gifts and a certificate to each of the top three participants in both grades, along with recognition of all who participate. Also, ladies are reminded to promote the celebration of the upcoming Texas Honor Day and fly the Texas Flag. January 26 is Mirabeau B. Lamar Day. Lamar is honored as Texas’ Father of Education. He served as second President of the Republic of Texas from 1838 to 1841.
