Varsity Boys Suffer District Loss to Randolph
Wednesday, January 6, 2010 • Posted January 5, 2010

The Panther basketball team faced the RoHawks in their first district match-up on Saturday, January 2. The RoHawks jumped out to a quick 2-14 first quarter lead and finished the game defeating the Panthers 30-49.

Blanco struggled against the Randolph defense in the first half; the RoHawks were all over the players, stopping the inside game for the Panthers. The Blanco outside shooters tried to get the scoring started, but the shots would not fall.

In the second half, Blanco was able to cut the Randolph lead to 11 with a rally by Blake West and Clayton Green, who were nailing 3-pointers from the perimeter. However, the RoHawks took control of the fourth quarter, running a spread offense, stalling the Panther rally, and burning time off the clock.

With only 3 seniors on the squad, this young Panther team will improve with each game. Leading scorers for the Panthers were: Blake West - 9 points, Clayton Green - 8, and Austin Carrola - 6; Tanner Rogers scored 5 points with Matt Pepper adding 2.

The JV also lost to Randolph with a final score of 30-54. Jordan Handberry led the Panthers with 8 points, followed by Tyler Noah with 6 and Will Byler with 5. TJ Hardin and Ian Ray each added 4 points; Chad Marshall made 2 and D.J. Phipps added an extra point.
