Dear Editor,

Charley Pemberton, local teabagger and tea party organizer, continues to faithfully parrot Republican Party talking points. Especially the inaccurate and absurd claims of Dick Cheney and Rudy Guiliani concerning terrorist attacks on the US between Jan. 2001 and Jan. 2009 – the tenure of Pres. George Bush. (See letter in last week’s Blanco County News).

The claim of a “legacy of eight years with no terrorists attacks on the USA” is a falsehood that has been widely discredited and rightly ridiculed. The attacks of 9/11 of course happened on 9/11/01, more than 8 months after Mr. Bush took office. Then we had the so-called shoe bomber later that same year. And let’s not forget, as Cheney and Mr. Pemberton would have us do, the spate of anthrax letters. Which, by the way, go unsolved to this day. Oh, and Osama bin Laden remains at large thanks to the bumbling of the Bush Administration. Repeating lies doesn’t make them any truer, whether done in the soft sneering voice of Mr. Cheney or the bombastic shout of Mr. Guiliani. Or the echo of Mr. Pemberton.

As for the scurrilous equating of Stalin and Hitler with Pres. Obama, the sheer incoherence of the teabagger fantasies hardly deserves a rebuttal. To imply, as Mr. Pemberton does, that Pres. Obama is letting terrorist attacks happen to promote chaos simply shows how out of touch with reality he is. Mr. Pemberton, why not have a cup of coffee and join the reality-based world?
