The 2010 "Great American Cleanup" will begin on March 1 and end on May 31. The 11th annual KBB citywide "Don't Mess With Texas Trash-Off" and the 4th annual "Blanco River Cleanup" is scheduled for April 10, 2010. Each year since 2000, the citizens, youth, families, churches, schools, civic organizations, city employees and officials and KBB volunteers have come together to help to remove the litter, junk cars, used appliances and illegal dumps from Blanco. We will be looking forward to another successful year.

Our KBB fund-raising will begin this month in preparation for the upcoming events. Everyone is always excited about the t-shirts that they will receive and what color they will be. I know of several people who have all ten shirts. This year we will miss Ron Houston and his enthusiasm about being the city's spokesman for the "Trash-Off" event. Everytime I would see Ron feeding the cats, having coffee at CJ's or just out visiting, he would be wearing a KBB t-shirt.

I want to encourage all of our volunteer groups to be encouraging their families and neighbors to help Make and Keep Blanco Beautiful by keeping their properties litter free and to start getting their volunteer lists together.

There will be information in next weeks paper about an additional collection of items, such as tires and batteries, that will be held on March 24.
