Blanco County Youth Show Set to Start

Armed with sewing machines, cameras, and aprons, Blanco County youth are preparing diligently for the Youth Exhibit Hall next week in Johnson City.

Kendra Smith and Elizabeth O’Day have been busy with leather stamping lessons and are creating a dog collar and a belt. Mycala Jordan has been quilting since late summer for her submission. Rilee Moser is preparing to enter the newest category by preparing an entry for the Recyle/Reuse division.

4-H Project Leaders such as April Klepac and Nancy Jordan prepared the 4-H members by teaching workshops on sewing and scrapbooking.

The 2010 Blanco County Youth Exhibit Hall will be held January 14-16 during the Youth Stock Show. The calendar of events is as follows:

January 14: Entry Check In - 10am to 2pm, Judging - 3pm.

January 15: Exhibit Hall Open - 9am, Silent Auction of Projects - Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to Noon

New competition categories have been added, including doll making, scrapbooks, and more.

Schedule of Events

• Wednesday, January 13

3:00 to 5:00pm - All shop projects must be in place. These projects will be classified into divisions by the Shop Judge prior to judging at 8am on Thursday.

• Thursday, January 14

8:00am - All animal projects arrive/check-in, judging of shop projects; 10:00am - Exhibit Hall entries arrive; 12:00 noon - All projects must be in place at the Show Barn (entries receives after December 1, 2009 will be subject to a late fee of $20 in addition to the entry fee). Hogs, sheep and market goats will be weighed and classified upon arrival; ear tags must be clean. Cattle will begin weighing after 12 noon; 1:00pm - Judging will begin in the following order (divisions will follow with no set time) - Poultry, Rabbits, Market Steers, Market Lambs; 2:00pm - Exhibit Hall entries must be in place; 3:00pm - Judging of Exhibit Hall entries.

• Friday, January 15

8:00am - Judging will begin in the following order (divisions will follow with no set time): Meat Goats, Little Britches Goat Show, Market Hogs; 9:00am to 5:00pm - Exhibit Hall Silent Auction; 5:00pm - Exhibit Hall entries must be in place; 11:00pm - All livestock must be removed.

• Saturday, January 16

11:00am - Shop and Exhibit Hall Projects Silent Auction. Buyers appreciation luncheon in the Exhibit Hall. Hospitality room open for sale buyers only until the end of the sale; 1:00pm - Exhibit Hall Projects Silent Auction Ends. Premium Sales begins in the following order: Grand Champions, Reserve Grand Champions, Breed Champions, Reserve Breed Champions, 1st place of each class, 2nd place of each class, 3rd place of each class, etc.

• Sunday, January 17

1:00pm - Show Barn Clean-Up
