Panthers Fight Tough

The Blanco Lady Panther basketball team is 4-0 in District play after crushing their last two opponents.

On Tuesday, January 5, the Panthers defeated Comfort 57-32. Leading the team in scoring was Lacee Hunter with 21 points. Justine Cooley added 9 with Alyssa Warner sinking 8 points. Abbey Weaver made 7 points while Felicia Skillman contributed 5.

Brooks Academy was the next Blanco victim. On Friday, January 8, the Panthers outpaced the Bengals 67-24. Lacee Hunter ripped the nets for 24 points. Leslie McClinton sank 11 points and Alyssa Warner and Felicia Skillman each added 9. Justine Cooley added 6 points.

The JV Girls suffered their first district loss to Comfort, 26-37. Leading scorers were Susannah Campbell and Raini Romero with 6 each. Kelsy Schwind added 4 and Mishelle Calzoncit made 3.

The Varsity will face the 3-0 Harper Lady Horns on Tuesday, January 12 after press time. This game will determine the leader in the District race.

The Varsity Panthers Boys moved into a tie for second place in the district standings with a solid victory over Comfort 63-42 and a win against Brooks Academy 65-56.

Blake West sank three-pointers and free throws to lead the Panthers with 19 points. Tanner Rogers sank 17 points and Clayton Green added 12.

Against Brooks, the Green brothers led the way with Dustin Green ripping 13 points and Clayton Green pumping in 12. Blake West followed with 11 points.

The Panthers face Harper and Johnson City in the next two games.
