Billy Joe Stahl, Sr.

Billy Joe Stahl, Sr. passed away Tuesday, January 12 at the age of 78. He was born on November 26, 1931 in Stockdale, Texas. He attended grade school in Stockdale, then TMI in San Antonio and went on to graduate from Texas A&M in 1953. The next 23 years were spent in the service of his country in the US Air Force, during which he was an instructor at the Air Force Academy and an aircraft navigator in Vietnam, where he logged over 200 combat hours. His service took him to every part of the globe, after which he retired in 1974 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband.

He spent the last 26 years of his life with his devoted and loving wife Martha. Their shared love for life, music, dance and each other made him happy beyond compare.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ola Mae Stahl and his son Billy J. Stahl, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Martha Stahl; children: Charles Stahl and wife Pauline, Marjorie (Stahl) Keutz, and Michael Hancock; grandchildren: Teresa and John Stahl, Melissa and Jeff Woodruff, Billy J. Stahl III, Christopher Stahl, Patton and Maiya Keutz; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will take place on Saturday, January 16 at the Schertz Funeral Home, located at 2217 FM 3009. Visitation is scheduled for 2:00pm followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm commencing with full military honors. Billy’s family appreciates the condolences they have already received and ask in his honor that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
