Varsity Panthers Fall in District Battles

Last week proved to be a tough stretch for the Lady Panthers as they lost two district match-ups. On Tuesday, January 12, the Panthers battle the Harper Lady Horns falling 48 to 53. Rallying from a 13-28 halftime deficit, the team pumped in 21 points narrowing the gap to 34-38 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Despite scoring another 14 points in the 4th quarter, the Panthers were unable to stop a late surge by Harper. Lacee Hunter, blazed the nets for 26 points. Alyssa Warner added 10 points and Micaela Klein sank 6. Leading rebounder was Lacee with 5. Lindsey Jenkins made 4 assists and Alyssa Warner had 3 blocks.

On Friday, January 15, the Lady Panthers suffered a loss to the Johnson City Lady Eagles. The Eagles jumped out to a half time lead 11-21. The Panthers rallied in the 2nd half, but were unable to over come the deficit, the Blanco squad fell 38-42. Justine Cooley led the Panthers with 4 three pointers and Cooley led the Panthers with 4 three pointers and 2 free throws for 14 points. Lacee added 10 points and Alyssa contributed 9.

Micaela grabbed 6 rebounds. Leslie McClinton passed the ball for 4 assists. Lacee, Micaela and Abbey Weaver each made 3 steals.

The Lady Panthers continue district play this week against Cole and next week against Randolph and Comfort. Come out and support the Panthers as they strive for a playoff position.

The Varsity Boys have struggled against tough district opponents, losing to the Harper Longhorns on Tuesday, January 12, 52-71 and falling to the Johnson City Eagles Friday, January 15, 40-71. High point scorers against Harper were Austin Carrola with 19 points, Blake West made 9 and Dustin Green and Cody Barnett with 7 each. In the Johnson City game, Blake West led the team with 13 points. Clayton Green and Austin Carrola each added 8 and Tanner Rogers sank 7 points.
