Blanco History Offered at Blanco Verde Potluck
Wednesday, January 27, 2010 • Posted January 26, 2010

Linda Howard and Becky Greathouse delivered a delightful and informative presentation Thursday evening at the Blanco Library on historic architecture in Blanco.

After enjoying a variety of delicious dishes, the participants helped themselves to apple pie, hot tea, and coffee while Ms. Howard and Ms. Greathouse fascinated their listeners with archival photos and architectural facts about buildings on the square as well as homes built in the 1850s.

Linda Howard regaled everyone with colorful stories of early Blancoites as well as some of her childhood memories in Blanco. Becky Greathouse, who studied the architecture in Blanco as part of her graduate work at UTSA, helped identify structural styles and features that help date the architecture, including the attractive and historical Mission-style old school on 11th Street, which was completed around 1909.
