The Lady Panthers secured another district win Tuesday, January 19 over the Cole Lady Cougars, 50-42. Following two district losses to Harper and Johnson City, this victory keeps the Panthers on pace for a playoff spot with their district record of 5-2.
At the end of the first quarter the score was tied at 11. By halftime, the Panthers led by a small margin, 20-17. In the 3rd quarter, the Blanco girls took control of the game, scoring 17 points and holding the Cougars to only 3 points. The 4th quarter brought a swing in momentum as the Cougars rallied, scoring 22 points. The Panthers added another 13 points to hold on for the win.
Senior Lacee Hunter and freshman Leslie McClinton led the scoring attack with 11 points each. Senior Alyssa Warner added 7 points and sophomores Abbey Weaver and Micaela Klein sank 6 points each. Abbey grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the team. Lacee and Micaela had 7 and 6 rebounds respectively. Leslie led the squad with 4 assists, followed by Micaela with 3. Defensively, Lacee and Leslie each made 4 steals, with Abbey blocking 2 shots.
The Junior Varsity girls crushed the Cole Cougars 38-12 last Tuesday. Leading scorer was freshman Raini Romero with 11 points, followed closely by sophomore Susannah Campbell with 10 points; freshman Kelsey Schwind added 7 points. Raini hustled for 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Susannah grabbed 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Kelsey finally found some spring, bringing down 10 rebounds. The JV team has a 5-1 record in district standings.
The Panthers face Randolph and Comfort this week in district play.
