Today I saw that we are going through the same kind of persecution that Jesus went through. I guess before I go any further I should mention there are many kinds of persecutions. What I may perceive as persecution, another may take as a demented form of teasing. Definition of persecution: “the subjecting of a race or group of people to cruel or unfair treatment, e.g. because of their ethnic origin or religious beliefs.”
Well, Jesus said we’d be persecuted simply for believing in Him as our risen Lord and Savior. And he said to rejoice when you are falsely accused.
“11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” Matthew 5:11-12
“18If the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you.
19If you belonged to the world, the world would treat you with affection and would love you as its own. But because you are not of the world [no longer one with it], but I have chosen (selected) you out of the world, the world hates (detests) you.
20Remember that I told you, A servant is not greater than his master [is not superior to him]. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word and obeyed My teachings, they will also keep and obey yours.
21But they will do all this to you [inflict all this suffering on you] because of [your bearing] My name and on My account, for they do not know or understand the One Who sent Me.
22If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin [would be blameless]; but now they have no excuse for their sin.
23Whoever hates Me also hates My Father.” John 15:18-23 AMP
People who think they know more than Jesus, they tell us what they think Jesus was trying to tell us and use Scriptures that contradict what Jesus taught. Just think of it! One day a lady was reading Scriptures to me to convince me of an idea she wanted me to believe, but I replied back with what Jesus said; in the same way that the devil used God’s Word to ensnare Jesus during the 40 day fast (and He replied back with what God said in Deuteronomy).
We need to study our bibles to speak God’s Word. It is our weapon. We also need to think before we speak, and not say things that could get us in trouble, or harm ourselves.
Proverbs 13:2 “A good man eats good from the fruit of his mouth, but the desire of the treacherous is for violence.”
Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].”
And Jesus said “36But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak.
37For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.” Matthew 12:36-37
Remember what you’re doing, if it’s for the Lord, and why you’re doing it. Don’t be discouraged, and try to keep your thoughts pure. If they’re not, work on it. We need to remember the following Scripture:
“34You offspring of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil (wicked)? For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks. 35The good man from his inner good treasure flings forth good things, and the evil man out of his inner evil storehouse flings forth evil things.” Matthew 12:34-35
“33Either make the tree sound (healthy and good), and its fruit sound (healthy and good), or make the tree rotten (diseased and bad), and its fruit rotten (diseased and bad); for the tree is known and recognized and judged by its fruit.” Matthew 12:33
I love it! I love God’s Word! No one can get away with this one! Everyone produces some kind of fruit, and it is evident to everyone. We all see it! You can believe lies, but we can see fruit. I used to be married to someone who told me he loved me but did not show it. Prove it don’t just say it.
You and I are producing fruit, so we probably need to look at it to see if it will be rejected by the Master Grower.
The parallel between us and Jesus is that we are sometimes accused of things wrongfully and criticized sharply; and it hurts. Jesus was falsely accused, wounded for our transgressions, and hated by the sinners. But I’m ‘gonna keep on truckin’. How ‘bout you?
