Saturday, February 20, 2010, marks the second Gospel Sing in a series at Spring Branch Baptist Church, 11750 US Hwy 281 North (¾ mile north of the Spring Branch Post Office). This month features award-winning, popular duo Gene and LaVada Triesch from Blanco, Texas, in the heart of the Hill Country.
After completing a year-long study of the Bible in 2001, Gene was impressed to begin writing gospel songs. Since that time Gene and LaVada have recorded three ‘Southern Country-style’ gospel albums. The first, In God’s Time, was recorded at BGM Studios in San Antonio and produced by Grammy Award-winning musician Bobby Flores (who played all the fiddle, mandolin, and guitar parts on the album). The second project Set Free was produced in Nashville and At the Speed of Love was produced in Gallatin, TN.
On their website, menorahmusic.com, Bill Green, BGM Studios says:
Gene and LaVada Triesch are two of the most sincere singers I have ever worked with. They sing every song on their new CD (In God’s Time) with both passion and heartfelt emotion. During the recording process they were certainly two of the most enjoyable and professional people I have ever worked with. For all their blessings they give credit where credit is due, to their Heavenly Father.
In 2005 they were endorsed by Christian Music Presenters, Inc., of Nashville TN. They also received STGMA (So TX Gospel Music Assoc) 2005 Award for Vocal Duo of the Year, a 2006 nomination for CCMA Vocal Duo of the Year, in addition to the 2006 STGMA Award for Songwriter of the Year and the 2009 STGMA Award for Vocal Duo of the Year. On another note, Gene is also author of the book TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES The Battle for Beulah Land, The Church in a Rearview Mirror.
Spring Branch Baptist Church enjoys hand-clappin’, toe-tappin’ music and sponsored an all-day Gospel Music Festival in October 2008 to celebrate the dedication of their new building. They had a packed house in October 2009 with Debbie Daniels and the Grand Ole Gospel Sing, which featured many artists, including the Steel Magnolias (nominated for a Grammy in country and gospel music). In January, everyone had a great time singing along with Dale Friedrich and the Jesus Train from Kerrville.
Future Sings feature Walter Plant (walterplant.com) March 28 on Sunday night, but all other Sings will be on Saturday evenings. The Seale Sisters from Winchester TX (sealesisters.org), Hannah, Elisabeth, Deborah and Abigail, who have recorded two CDs will be performing on April 10. Forever Changed, a men’s trio from Canyon Lake who debuted at SBBC’s first festival, will sing on May 15. White Dove, a beloved bluegrass group at the annual Wimberley Music Festival, will be singing June 12. The Southern Grace Quartet from Texarkana will sing on July 10 and on August 14, Debbie Daniels will again bring her popular Grand Ole Gospel Sing, this year called the Indoor Campfire Meetin’ and featuring a real campfire and wooden fence.
The church invites the community to come join in the fun at 6:00 p.m. with some gospel singing before the special artists take the stage from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Door prizes will be given and a love offering will be taken up for each special gospel group.
