Day of Prayer
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 • Posted February 16, 2010

Let Everything that has Breath Praise God … Please join us for the World Day of Prayer to be celebrated on Friday, March 5, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City. The sanctuary will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM for all who wish to participate - come into the church and offer prayers. Each year the committee for the World Day of Prayer asks that we focus on a particular area and Cameroon is the focus of this year’s prayers and offerings.

The Republic of Cameroon is located in the center of Africa above the equator at the extreme end of the Gulf of Guinea. Human trafficking is a very common practice, forcing women and children into modern day slavery that consists of servitude and sexual exploitation, leading to a growing rate of HIV infection among this population. The women of Cameroon face domestic violence and sexual abuse, in addition to the harmful traditional practice of genital mutilation in young girls.

In recent days, the earthquake in Haiti has been on our minds and certainly prayers for Haiti are needed as well. Please join us as we join others worldwide to pray specifically for Cameroon and Haiti, as well as for our nation and its leaders. For more information, please call Debby Elsbury at 830-481-9007.
