Wednesday, February 17, 2010 • Posted February 16, 2010

Blanco High School teams swept the UIL District 27AA cross-examination debate tournament on Monday, February 8 at the First Baptist Church in Blanco. The team of Briar Koehl and Allen Strandtman, both juniors, and the team of senior Kristen Mancha and junior Wes Stults qualified to represent Blanco at the UIL State CX Debate Tournament in Austin on March 15-16. The ninth grade team of Eleanor Kirkscey and Jacob Hallenberger will serve as alternates.

The three teams combined for a record of 11-1 on the day as they defeated teams from Harper, Johnson City, Cole, and Comfort. A total of eleven teams were entered.

This year’s debate resolution is “The United States federal government should substantially increase social services for persons living in poverty in the United States.” Teams must debate both sides of the topic during the course of the tournament.
