State FFA President Gives Talk Here

February 20, 1970

Murray Edwards, President of the Texas Association of the Future Farmers of America, addressed the Blanco High School assembly on Thursday morning, February 5. Young Edwards spoke on “Youth’s Concern for the Government of the United States of America.” He expressed the need for Youth Leadership, Citizenship, Patriotism and Good Government in the United States.

As president of the Texas FFA Association, he represents some 45,000 youth in the state of Texas.

Paul Granberg, president of the Blanco FFA Chapter, introduced the state officer to the student body.

Carol Summy Magazine Advisor

February 22, 1980

New York – Mrs. Carol Summy, Home economics teacher at Blanco High School, has been named to the Forecast Advisory Board according to an announcement by Gloria Spitz, editor of the Forecast for Home Economics Magazine.

Published nationally by Scholastic Magazines Inc., Forecast for Home Economics is for home economics teachers and professionals in the field.

Mrs. Summy is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University, and has been teaching home economics at Blanco High School since 1971.

PTA to Meet On March 9

February 24, 1961

PTA members are reminded that the March meeting will be held on March 9 instead of the regular meeting date. This was decided at the recent meeting so that the meeting date would coincide with Public School Week celebration.

The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on March 9 and open house will be held following the meeting in the school rooms.

Refreshments will be served later in the evening in the lunch room by the PTA members.

February 22, 1980

April 30 is the deadline for filing your school tax, homestead and over 65 exemptions, reminds Blanco ISD Tax Assessor-Collector Joy Brussel.

“Even if you filed last year, you must come in and sign up every year,” Mrs. Brussel pointed out.

Birthday Party

February 20, 1970

A Birthday 42 Party for Hugo Brodbeck was held at this home last week. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Brodbeck, Mr. and Mrs. Ervie Dotson Hr., Mr. and Mrs. Otto Riba, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Beck, Billie Jean Beck, Erna Wolf, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Moellenberg and Mark and Keith Brodbeck.

Prize winners were Willie Moellenberg, Jr. Dotson, Joe Beck, Helen Jones, Elsie Beck, and Erna Wolf.

Delicious refreshments were enjoyed by all.

Engagement Told

February 20, 1970

Mr. and Mrs. Marshall C. Ivie of San Antonio announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Pamela Gayle, to Johnny William Page, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Page of Boerne.

A Burbank High School graduate (National Honor Society, Cosmetology Club) Miss Ivie is attending San Antonio College.

Mr. Page graduated from Holmes High School at San Antonio, where he was a member of the Athletic Club and co-captain of the baseball team.

Yucca Garden Club to Meet

February 20, 1970

The Yucca Garden Club will meet Wednesday, February 25, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Harrison.

The program will be a film, “Birds of Texas,” presented by a special guest, Mr. Ira C. Caswell.

FFA chili feast tonight

February 22, 1980

The Blanco FFA will hold something new in the county tonight a chili supper to raise funds to help send judging teams to contests.

BHS Ag teacher Cyril Wolf pointed out that other local fund raising offered barbeque, soup, cakes, and other edible, but nobody else seemed to be offering chili.

If successful, this will be an annual event.

Serving time tonight will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the school cafeteria, at a cost of $1.50 a plate.

In addition, all comers may register for a drawing to give away a pig or a lamb.
