Wednesday, March 3, 2010 • Posted March 2, 2010

Paula was born on July 16, 1911, and passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at the age of 98. She was the daughter of Otto and Matilda Krause Scheel. On February 20, 1929, Paula married G.W. Zercher.

Her husband of 72 years preceded her in death in December of 2001. She is survived by three children: Roger Zercher of Blanco; LaVerne Piehl and husband, Jack, of Kingwood; and Leroy Zercher and wife, Doris, of Greenville, South Carolina. Paula celebrated 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters: Alvina Hilbert of Seguin and Linda Holzmann of New Braunfels, as well as by many nieces and nephews.

Paula was born on the Scheel Family farm, which is now on Camp Bullis in San Antonio. She was one of 10 children. Later, the family moved to the Bulverde area. Not long ago, Paula received information that the home she lived in for the early part of her life was not only still there, but was honored with a historical marker.

Family was very important to “Emmie” –she always loved being with family and friends—family parties and Saturday dinners, holidays, playing cards, and dominoes. She enjoyed sharing her cooking and canning recipes with the younger generations of her family. Her delightful smile and wonderful personality will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to meet her.

Visitation was held at Crofts Funeral Home Sunday evening. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blanco at 10:00 a.m. Monday with burial following in Blanco Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Craig Gourley, Clayton and Shane Zercher, Randolph, Roger and Robert Doyer. Pastor Don Ofsdahl officiated.
