John 14:12-14, 15:16, 16:23-24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”
In the verses above, Jesus is teaching us about authority. Believers in Christ Jesus have been given the right to use the most powerful, magnificent, glorious Name in the universe. Let’s see what God’s Word says about The Name of Jesus: Eph 1:20-21 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come. Php 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Heb 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Jam 2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
Do you see it? Hell shakes and demonic forces tremble at The Name of Jesus. That Name has all the power of heaven backing it. Amazingly, Jesus gave us, his disciples, the legal right to use His Name. What a privilege! What an honor! Yet, so often, we don’t realize what we have. So many Christians don’t know about this. They think “In Jesus Name” is just something you add on to the end of your prayer as a “closer”. Some people can pray in total faithless unbelief, and then say “In Jesus Name”; when in actuality, they didn’t pray in His Name at all. A prayer in Jesus Name, is a prayer of faith. It’s a prayer in line with The Word of God. If you don’t pray in faith; if you don’t pray expecting to receive; I don’t understand why anyone would pray at all. It would just be a worthless, religious duty (Mt 6:7).
We should expect our prayers to avail much (Jam 5:16). We should expect answers (Mt 7:7-8). We should believe we receive it when we pray it (Mk 11:23). If you follow The Lord; if you please Him; then you should expect answers to your prayers (1Jn 3:22-23). We should expect great and mighty things (Jer 33:3). God can do exceeding, abundantly above all we ask or think; but it’s according to the power that works in us (Eph 3:20). Jesus said “Let it be done unto you, according to your faith” (Mt 9:29). Your faith and your confession are the keys to receiving from God. Don’t think you can believe contrary to God’s Word, and speak contrary to God’s Word; but then receive answers to your prayers. Your heart and your mouth must be in line with God’s Word.
In The Name of Jesus is forgiveness of sins (Act 10:43, 1Jn 2:12); eternal life (1Jn 5:13); salvation (Rom 10:13). By it we’re washed, sanctified, & justified (1Cor 6:11). Honor The Name of Jesus. Respect The Name of Jesus. Reverence The Name of Jesus. Understand the power in The Name of Jesus. Understand your right to use The Name of Jesus. Give thanks to The Name of Jesus, “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” (Heb 13:15). Child of God, meditate on this! Until next time, rejoice in The Lord (Phip 4:4)!
