Viola Schmidt (Solarczyk) Herms

Viola Schmidt (Solarczyk) Herms, known as Baby Grandma, was 65 years old when she passed away peacefully in Boerne, Texas, on Saturday, April 10, 2010. Viola was a patient at Town and Country Manor after suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm and many other complications. Viola was born in New Braunfels on March 28, 1945. Viola will be dearly missed by her father, Leroy Schmidt of San Antonio, her mother, Lorine Schmidt of Bulverde, and her brother, Billy Schmidt.

Viola attended high school in New Braunfels. She was involved in many activities while growing up, including dance, twirling, and many more. Viola was employed at the Iron Skillet for more than 20 years and then went on to retire. She was involved with Hermann Sons and Anhalt in Bulverde. Viola was a resident of Bulverde and lived many other places throughout her life. Viola was known for her beautiful blue eyes, her love of the outdoors, and her laughter.

Viola is survived by her long-time companion, Ricky Burke of Bulverde, her daughters: Elizabeth Law and her husband Jay of Navasota, Debbie Bayless and her husband Tommy of New Waverly, Suzanne Capparelli and her husband Guy of Bulverde, Laurie Kostantenaco and her husband Ryan of Bulverde, and nephew Justin Schmidt and his wife Rayanne of San Antonio. The joys of Viola’s life were her 12 Grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, great-nephew and -niece, her best friend Jan, and many others who knew her as Baby Grandma. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ida and August Schmidt, Bennie and Thelka Wuest, the father of her daughters, John Solarczyk, and her nephew, Christopher Schmidt.

The family would like to give a special Thanks to Dr. Michael Mann of Bulverde, Town and Country and their staff, Southern Care Hospice, her best friend Jan, and many friends of the family who helped them make it through the last six months of her life.

The funeral will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bulverde on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception held at the church after the graveside service at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Southern Care Hospice, American Diabetes Association www.diabetes .org, or to the charity of your choice.
