Wednesday, April 21, 2010 • Posted April 20, 2010

The Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center’s friends, J&M Tank Lines are sponsoring a Benefit Ride & Event supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This rally will include a Poker Run for motorcycles beginning at 9:30 with the last bike out at 11:30, Bar-B-Q plates all day for $5 each, and a 50/50 drawing from sales of raffle tickets and entry fees.

Please join us on Saturday, April 24 at 525 East Hwy 29 in Bertram for a great time at Scooters & Shooters for an event sponsored by J&M Tank Lines. This event is open to the public with doors opening at 8:00am. There will be a $10.00 entry fee per person for the Poker Run which will include 50/50 tickets. Even if you don’t ride a motorcycle, come on by for some good BBQ. The fun will last into the night with the band, Black Foot Rising, starting to play at 8pm.

At last year’s event, J & M Tank Lines raised over $2,000 for the center and are hoping local motorcycle riders will help them do it again!

The Crisis Center provides services 24/7 for victims of sexual violence including medical accompaniment, counseling, safe shelter, legal advocacy, food and clothing, among others. Statewide as well as in the Highland Lakes area child sexual abuse and teen dating violence are on the rise. Services for victims and their families are vital to their recovery and return to normalcy. The Crisis Center also provides community education including a free school program, which focuses on issues of “Healthy Relationships” for teens. The prevalence of sexual violence and abuse in our communities speaks to the Center’s need for funding to meet the increased demand for services in this growing area. Events such as this Bike Rally help substantially to provide the community a great way to show they care.
