BHS Members Find Their Treasure at the State FCCLA Meeting

The Blanco chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America attended the State Leadership Conference held in Dallas, Texas on April 8-10, 2010. The chapter members were among 3,500 delegates attending the three-day conference. The youth developed theme, “Beyond the Limits” was carried out through tracks featuring a series of specialized workshops and general sessions in which members discovered ways to become actively involved in issues facing today’s youth.

STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members participate at the regional meeting. These events allow members to showcase their life skills in different areas of competition. Ashley Alexander and Cheyenne Harber competed in the Chapter Showcase Display with their project based on the theme “Beyond the Limits with Blanco FCCLA”. Their project highlighted all of the activities that members have participated in this school year. Ashley and Cheyenne earned fourth place in the Senior Division at the State Level. Kyle Maisano competed in the Career Investigation event which he presented his research on a career in clinical psychology. Kyle earned sixth place in the Senior Division at the State Level.

Chelsea San Miguel fulfilled her duties as the out-going Region V President. Other members who attended and participated in meeting activities were: Alicia Immel, Morgan Johnson, Maggie Avila, and Tim Strodtbeck.

FCCLA is a dynamic youth organization that has the family as the central focus. Student leaders of Texas FCCLA are ready to “Find Your Treasure with FCCLA” and progress with programs related to parenting, child development, management (personal and financial), interior design, entrepreneurship, food service, nutrition, institutional maintenance, hospitality, and career awareness. The leadership skills gained from FCCLA can and will be beneficial for many years. All activities focus on family, career and community leadership. FCCLA members will utilize knowledge gained through leadership experiences to develop a solid foundation for the future.
