On May 7, the Lady Panther softball team needed an error-free game to defeat the Wiemar Ladycats, but it wasn’t to be. In the first game of the best 2 of 3 series, the Panthers could not rally any momentum, losing 0-10. Lacee Hunter, Kelsey Schwind, and Mishelle Calzoncit each had a hit for Blanco. Leslie McClinton made an outstanding defensive play with a diving catch, followed by a diving tagout as a Weimar runner overran third base. Callie Culton and Chandler Ashley pitched for Blanco.

On Saturday, May 8, the Panthers played a much improved game; however, Wiemar surged ahead in the last two innings to secure the game, 2-4. With no score in the first two innings, the Panthers took a two run lead in the third inning. Angel Williams swatted a single and Alex Gustafson took first on a Ladycat error. Culton smashed a single and with bases loaded, Hunter hit a hard grounder. The Wiemar defender overthrew first base, allowing Williams and Gustafson to come home for the runs. The Wildcats scored one run in the fourth inning, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh to take the win.

In an exciting double-play, Hillary Calzoncit scooped up a short grounder at third base and fired the ball to Schwind on first for an out. Schwind then threw to the catcher, Gustafson, who was covering third base. A Wiemar runner was caught in a squeeze play between 2nd and 3rd. McClinton covered 2nd and Williams followed in line at 3rd to run down the Ladycat for the tagged out.

Hayley Fishbeck nailed a single over 2nd base and Hunter tallied two RBI’s. Callie Culton pitched for Blanco. Other varsity team members are Lauren Winn, Megan Brown and Mackenzie Johnson.

The Panthers complete their season as Bi-District Champions with a 19-10 season record.
