A Picture of God
Blanco Church of Christ

A kindergarten teacher asked a boy what he was drawing. Without pausing to look up, he said, "A picture of God." The teacher smiled and responded, "But nobody knows what God looks like." The boy carefully put down his crayon, looked her squarely in the eye, and declared, "They will when I'm finished."

The disciples of Jesus once asked Him to show them the Father. Jesus said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, show us the Father?" (John 14:9). The Hebrew writer said concerning Jesus, "He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature..." (Hebrews 1:3). The apostle Paul said concerning Jesus, "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form...(Colossians 2:9). Man has always been searching for a way to understand God. We need look no further than in the person of Jesus the Christ. His deeds and words tell us all that we need to know. Jesus spoke truth to all, He showed compassion for the weak and outcast, and made forgiveness possible to the greatest of transgressors. Through His own death and resurrection He opened the new and living way and proclaimed victory over the grave.

When His earthly life was nearly over and as He was dying on the cross, no doubt He could reflect on the life He had lived, the love for all mankind that had been given, and the words that had been spoken - no doubt He had painted the perfect picture of God - "It is finished!" (John 19:30).
