New Athletic Field Completed and Sign-ups Announced

Local supporters of the Blanco Youth Football League, led by Paul Elrod and Danny Breeding, recently completed construction of a new field at the high school on May 8. A 9-zone sprinkler system with 45 heads was installed, and the goal posts were straightened, stripped, and painted. After tilling the field, 1500 lbs of milorganite and 60,000 earthworm eggs were spread, followed by Yukon Bermuda seed. The following helped: Dr. Buck Ford – Blanco ISD Superintendent, Danny Rogers – BHS Athletic Director, Tony Petri – BISD Maintenance, Rodney Green, Martin Sauceda, Dirt Works, Wesley Elrod-Core Span, Terrell Byler, Lynn Maly, Bill Fojtasek, Josh Howe-Howe Sprinklers, Geraldine Breeding, Adrian Soliz, Clayton Zercher, Butch Dechert, Gerald Elrod, Todd Mabry, Kenneth Moore, Matt Horton and Crew, Blanco County Ag Extension.

The BYFL will host the first sign-up of the season on Monday, May 24 at Riley’s BBQ from 6pm- 8pm. Divisions for the 2010 season will be Cheerleading, ages 5-12, Flag, ages 5-6, Freshman Tackle, ages 7-8 (120 lb weight limit), Junior Varsity Tackle, ages 9-10, (140 lb weight limit) and Varsity Tackle, ages 11-12 (no weight limit).

Cost for the season will be $125 for cheerleading and tackle football and $75 for Flag. There will also be a $25 equipment deposit due on or before equipment is handed out. A copy of the player’s birth certificate, proof of residency and a physical will all be due before August 2, 2010.
