Football, Cheerleading Lead Summer Day Camp Series
Wednesday, June 2, 2010 • Posted June 1, 2010

Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center’s first of 10 summer day camp sessions will center around skills and drills for football and cheerleading campers.

Set for the week of June 7 through June 11, the camp will take place at Lady Bird Johnson Park for children ages five through 12. It will include basic techniques such as reaction drills for football players and proper motions for cheerleaders. Experienced college and high school adults will lead activities.

“This camp is designed to give kids self-confidence and teach foundational aspects of football and cheerleading,” Jessie Aleman, youth programming coordinator for the Wellness Center, said. “We have a lot of fun in a kid-approved environment and invite everyone to come out and join us.”

Children should bring a sack lunch, two snacks, water bottle, sunscreen, towel and swimsuit. Swimming levels of each camper are evaluated each week, and children are appropriately supervised based on swimming ability.

There are 10 different weekly sessions in the 2010 Fit Kids Summer Sports and Fitness Day Camp series that run through mid-August. Each camp day begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. Sports and other activities take place in the morning, and kids will swim each afternoon at Lady Bird Johnson Park pool. Parents may sign up their children by the day, week or month, and payment is due at the time of registration. Cost is $40/day or $115/week, and parents will drop off and pick up their children at the park.

Upcoming sessions include camps for basketball (June 14-18), soccer (June 21-25), Ol’ Fashion Fun (June 28-July 2), baseball/softball (July 5-9), dance/Wheels, Inc. (July 12-16), nature/arts & crafts (July 19-23), tennis (July 26-30), crazy games (Aug. 2-6) and camping/fishing (Aug. 9-13).

Attendance at the camp is limited to 40 children per week, and enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents should call the Wellness Center at 997-1355 or stop by 1006 South State Hwy. 16 for more information or to enroll their children.
