Ghost Presence Felt at Mt. Horeb
Wednesday, June 9, 2010 • Posted June 8, 2010

Instead of my usual article this week, I felt it was important to address a rumor that’s been going around for a long time now, about Peyton Colony and Mt. Horeb Baptist Church having the presence of ghosts! It seems that some people have actually created some web sites that depict ghosts out here in Peyton Colony, and even show pictures of ghosts in front of the church. In fact, my husband, Lawrence Coffee, was asked to be on a TV pilot series on KLRU called Haunted Texas, so they could interview him about the history of Peyton Colony. He told them that the only ghost out here is the Holy Ghost! Perhaps you had a chance to see it. Well, I’ve lived in Peyton Colony, right next door to Mt. Horeb Baptist Church for four years now, (since I married Lawrence and he’s lived here all his life), and neither one of us have ever seen a ghost. But lately we’ve sure felt a Ghost's presence!

Holy Ghost, that is! God’s Holy Spirit is moving at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church! We’ve been courtin’ our new pastor, Rev. Fred Wade for a year now, and a week ago Sunday, he announced that he’s accepted our marriage proposal, and he now considers himself ‘engaged’ to Mt. Horeb, and so we will soon be announcing his formal installation as our new pastor. He’s been delivering powerful sermons to our congregation and we love him and his sweet spirited, lovely wife, Sister Francis Wade.

Minister Nathan Weaver has been assisting Rev. Wade and also delivers enlightening sermons to our congregation as well, and is a tremendous blessing to our congregation. Chuck Kempf has blessed us with his musical ability as our bass guitar player, and we are enjoying worshipping our Lord with him every Sunday.

Incidentally, we have a full sermon every Sunday now, and this is a big change for Mt. Horeb, as the history of the church has been that the pastor only gave a full sermon on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. The other Sundays we only had Sunday School. Beginning the month of May, of this year, we started holding a full day of church every Sunday, and we are all benefitting from being fed the true Word of God each week. If you would like to visit us, Deacon Lawrence Coffee teaches Sunday School at 10:30am, and at 11:30am Rev. Wade delivers his sermon. We don’t watch the clocks at Mt. Horeb, so sometimes we go past 1:00pm. But we enjoy every minute of our church worship, and if you are in need of prayer and love and fellowship, and want to come join us, we’d love to see you.
