American Legion Honors Veterans with Ceremony

On Memorial Day, Monday May 31, 2010, the American Legion Memorial Highway Post 352 Blanco, Texas held a ceremony in front of the Old Blanco County Courthouse to honor all Veterans. Legionnaires present were Post Commander Teddy Weeks, 1st Vice Commander Tom Avants, and Past Commander Bruce Huguelet. Auxiliary members present were President Christine Huguelet, Chaplain and President-elect Roxanna Avants, and Chaplain-elect Randi Weeks. The current flag was lowered and put to rest. 1st Vice Commander Avants was honored to loan the post the flag, which draped the casket of his late father, Gorden Avants, USAF Ret., for the ceremony. The flag was raised to full staff and then lowered to half staff as Taps was played.

Others present were the granddaughters, great-granddaughter, and great-grandson of Mr. Avants: Deborah Alaniz and her daughter, Amaya Alaniz, Laura Day and her son, Jacob Boubel. Also present were Tomas Meek, Clark Holmes, and Rebecca Doll, Courthouse Manager. We appreciate all who attended and those who gathered to participate.
