Pedernales Electric has awarded $1,000 scholarships to 50 high school seniors whose parents or guardians are PEC members. The scholarships may be used for expenses at any post-secondary institution, including universities, junior colleges and technical schools.
“We’re in the business of providing electricity, but we’re also dedicated to community outreach,” said PEC Scholarship Board President Theresa Owens. “The PEC scholarship allows us to provide opportunities to students in our service area by investing in their futures. We hope our efforts positively impact these students and help them achieve their academic goals.”
Winners from PEC’s Johnson City District include Shayna Butler, LBJ High School; Colin Hawkins, LBJ HS; Michelle Herrera, LBJ HS; Sarah Isenberg, Blanco HS; Kaylin Jureczki, LBJ HS; Sarah-Anne Kocurek, Blanco HS; Siomha Moore, Blanco HS; and Kirstin Weber, Blanco HS.
In awarding the scholarships, the PEC selection committee evaluates students’ prior academic performance, standardized tests and financial need. The committee also uses students’ applications to determine motivation, character, ability and potential. Neither PEC nor its employees are involved in selecting scholarship recipients.
