Celebrate the Independence Day weekend in Fredericksburg on Saturday and Sunday, July 3 and 4, with live pari-mutuel horse racing at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds. Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the two-day July Fourth Racing Festival kicks off the eight-day 2010 summer racing season at the Fairgrounds.
Featured will be thoroughbred and quarter horse racing on Saturday and Sunday on the five-eighths mile oval at the Class III track. Gates open at 11 a.m. and post time is 1 p.m. daily.
Admission to the race meet is $5 for adults, $1 for children six to 12 years of age, and free for children under six. Box seats are available in the grandstand for $9 each. A Summer Season Pass, which is good for all Fair Association-sponsored events at the Fairgrounds this summer, is available for $30 each.
Highlighting the racing program on Saturday, July 3, will the Texas Quarter Horse Association Futurity Trails. Finals for that 350-yard race will be run on July 17.
Also on the weekend’s program is the 440-yard Hill Country Dash (John Deere Bonus Challenge Race) on Sunday, July 4.
In addition to live racing, simulcast wagering is offered in the Biergarten at the Fairgrounds and at The Race Barn, located at the main entrance to the Fairgrounds.
After the July 4th Racing Festival, the season continues with the Fredericksburg Texas Fest Race Meet on July 17-18, the Gillespie County Race Meet on Aug. 14-15 and on August 28-29 as part of the 122nd Gillespie County Fair, which runs August 26-29.
With the summer season underway, the Fair Association has also announced the entertainers for the 122nd Gillespie County Fair. Featured on Friday night, August 27, will be Darrell McCall and the Tennessee Volunteers, with Justin Trevino. On Saturday, August 28, John Conlee will be followed by Kyle Park. The concerts/dances will be held on the outdoor dance pavilion at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
The second “Texas Wines and Texas Winners” event will be held on Saturday, August 14, from 1-5 p.m. Featured will be Texas wineries offering wine tasting, talks, and more.
The Gillespie County Fair Grounds is located approximately two miles south of Fredericksburg on Texas Highway 16 South (Kerrville Highway).
