Blanco Varsity Cheerleaders Rated Superior at Camp

The Blanco High School Varsity Cheerleaders, along with the Varsity mascot, attended the Universal Cheerleader Association (UCA) Cheer Camp at the University of Texas in Austin from July 6-9. The Varsity squad, which consists of Briar Koehl and Kaitlyn Walla (captains), Hillary Calzoncit, Sidney Oliver, Presley Savarino, Callie Culton, Paxston Koehl, Kelsey Schwind, Megan Andrews, and Katy Petri, received seven superior evaluation ribbons for their chants, cheers, and dance routines. The squad also competed in the camp cheer competition and won the UCA Camp Champs trophy for their All-American Cheer performance.

Elise Edmondson, aka the “Champ the Panther” mascot, was awarded one excellent and four superior ribbons and also won the “Mushy Award” for being the most spirited mascot of the week. In addition, Elise was awarded the UCA Camp Champ trophy as the All-Around Camp mascot, was chosen as an All-American mascot, and was invited to attend the Capital One Bowl game in Florida. Also, Elise received an invitation to compete in the UCA mascot state championship competition to be held at Texas State University.

Paxston Koehl was chosen as an All-American Varsity Cheerleader and was invited to attend the 2011 Varsity Tour in London, England.

Captains Kaitlyn Walla and Briar Koehl were invited to perform in the 84th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. In addition, Kaitlyn was awarded a Camp Leadership Award.

The cheerleaders had a very successful camp and will begin preparations for the upcoming year shortly. They anxiously anticipate the start of the 2010-2011 seasons. Go Blanco!
