Fred J. Floerke

Fred J. Floerke, 84, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2010 from a brief illness. He was born in a small farmhouse between Sinton and Taft on September 22, 1925. He graduated from Taft High School, and then graduated from Saint Mary’s University.

Fred was a lifetime farmer and rancher. Farming was his true passion; therefore, he served many years on Midways Board of Directors. Fred also served many years on the Taft School Board. He was instrumental in the building of Holy Family Catholic Church in Taft. Fred was an avid hunter. He spent many happy times at his ranch in Goliad with his family.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife Helen Floerke, his sister Evelyn Cantwell, and a brother Homer Floerke. He is survived by a daughter, April Magnuseon (Gary), and two sons, Tony Floerke (Candi) and Neal Floerke (Kim). Fred is also survived by seven grandchildren; Travis Murray, Justin Murray, Jason Floerke (Tish), Dana Argo (Tony), Amy Issacs (Dave), Lisa Christensen (Darren), and Sara Bishop (John). He was also blessed to be survived by three great-grandchildren, Riley and Hunter Floerke and Emma Christensen. Fred is also survived by a longtime friend, Lori Beadle.

Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Colonial Funeral Home in Taft, with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Taft, TX. Interment followed at Taft Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or the SPCA San Pat County.
