Blanco FFA Members Place High at Prospect Show
Wednesday, July 28, 2010 • Posted July 27, 2010

Several members of the Blanco FFA and Blanco Jr. FFA traveled to Seguin on July 9 and 10 to exhibit their prospect market steers in the Annual Guadalupe Valley Pecan Classic. More than 250 steers from across the state competed in this year’s show. Leading the way for the local steer feeders was Jr. FFA member Kolby Marek, who exhibited the Champion Brangus. Also placing high was Jr. FFA member Asher Haack with the Reserve Champion Santa Gertrudis. Asher also showed a 3rd place Santa Gertrudis. Other high placings went to Kelton Marek with a first place lightweight Limousin and Carlin Green with a second place heavy weight ABC. Carly Haack also did well, bringing home a third place ribbon from the lightweight Charolais class, while Brenna Wallace did the same with her lightweight Angus and Santa Gertrudis. Senior FFA member Kylie Leachman closed out the day, placing third in the lightweight Maine Anjou class.

Many of these same exhibitors, along with several others, will now begin preparations for many of the upcoming county fairs that will be held throughout August and September, the first of which will be the Annual Blanco County Fair on August 20 and 21. The lamb and goat shows will be held Friday night, while the steer show will be Saturday afternoon.
