FFA Recognized at State Convention

The Blanco FFA Chapter was well represented in Corpus Christi at the annual Texas FFA Convention, as 18 local FFA members were honored on stage for various awards and accomplishments from the past school year.

Seniors Kaleigh Anderson and Taylor McCormick were each awarded a $15,000 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Scholarship. In addition, Kaleigh received the San Antonio Livestock Exposition Rural Youth Award, valued at $1,000. Others receiving scholarships included Keaton Dodd and Corey Dowlearn. Keaton was presented a $10,000 Dick Wallrath Scholarship, while Corey received a $1,000 San Antonio Livestock Exposition Tour Guide Scholarship.

Other students recognized on stage included those receiving their State FFA Degrees. Juniors Mindy Dechert, Payton Duvall, Kylie Leachman, Clint Dreyer, and Grady Childress were each presented with a certificate and gold pin for achieving their Lonestar FFA Degree.

Finally, the Blanco FFA was recognized on stage and presented a plaque for winning the Jr. Chapter Conducting State Championship. Team members included Callie Culton, Sam Isenberg, Ryan Wagner, Kellam Nabers, Tyler Hardin, James Leachman, Will Byler, Mackenzie Johnson, and Ed Alvarado. Callie stepped on stage one more time, as she was honored as a state finalist in the Jr. Public Speaking contest, where she placed seventh overall.

Advisors for the Blanco FFA are Jason and Felice Marek.
