Legion to Hold Bar-B-Q

August 21, 1970

American Legion Post No. 352 will have its annual membership barbecue and family picnic on Saturday, August 22, at Johnson Park at 6:30pm.

All members and their families are cordially invited to attend.

S.M. Academy Opens Sept. 5

August 18, 1961

The fall semester at San Marcos Academy beings with final registration on September 4 and classes on September 5. Resident halls will be open on September 2 for students who report early.

Listed among the students who applications have been approved for admission this fall from Blanco is Leslie Harvey.

Youth Council Meets

August 21, 1970

The Blanco Youth Council met Monday, August 17, at 3:30pm in the Blanco Neighborhood Center.

They made artificial flowers, telephone wire rings, and decoupage pictures for the Wurst Fest to be held this fall in New Braunfels.

Births

August 18, 1961

Mr. and Mrs. A. Freeman who own the BR Ranch at Blanco, announce the arrival of a daughter, Renee, born August 7 in Corpus Christi. The baby weighed 6, pounds, 7 ounces.

August 21, 1970

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mikes of Austin are the proud parents of a baby girl born at St. David’s Community Hospital in Austin, Monday, August 17. Debora Ann weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces when she arrived. Her maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Byars of Blanco and her paternal grandmother is Mrs. Adolph Mikes of Luling.

The Blanco County All Stars placed third in two recent Little League baseball tournaments.

During the first tournament, held at Marble Falls, the Blanco County All Stars beat Liberty Hill 4-1, lost to Marble Falls 2-1 and beat Lampassas 13-2. Named all Tournament were Eddie Calzoncit and Robert Upshaw.

The following week the All Stars again finished third in Fredericksburg by losing to Boerne 4-1 and 6-1 and beating Mason 6-1.

Named All Tournament were Ray Martinez, Scott Grofte and Robert Upshaw.

Blanco School Registration

August 21, 1980

New students Kindergarten through 12th grade Thursday, August 28 at 8:30am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Immunization records are necessary.

Returning students grades 8th through 12th, Friday, August 29 pick up class schedules on the following schedule if possible:

12th grade – 8:00am to 9:30am

11th grade – 9:30am to 11:00am

10th grade – 11:00am to 12:00pm

9th grade – 1:00pm to 2:00pm

8th grade – 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Prekindergarten and returning 1st through 7th graders need not report until the first day of school on Tuesday, September 2.
