If you plan on remodeling the laundry room, you need to take a look at your existing laundry room and decide if it is easier to remodel it or build a new one in a different location on your home. You must have connections for the washer and dryer so be sure you have those connections ready if you are moving your laundry room. The washer requires a water connection and the dryer requires an electric hookup of a 220 volt circuit.

Moving the laundry room to another location in the home is a safety issue. The common concern about moving a laundry room is the fire safety issues and flooding problems. Sadly, the U.S. Consumer Product safety Commission states there are 15,500 fires, 10 deaths and 10 injuries associated with dryers. Many clothes dryers require longer ventilation cords to be installed if they are moved from the basement and they may require more bends, causing a buildup of lint that can overheat the dryer.

Here are a few easy ways to remodel your laundry room. Begin with the storage space you currently have. Shelves above the washer and dryer can easily be added and can move the laundry detergent up from the floor or off the top of the dryer. If you are short on space, the extra shelves can help free up some room. There are also washers and dryers that can stack on top of each other.

Moving the washer and dryer from a complete room to a closet is another good idea if you need the extra space. A closet can easily hide the washer and dryer and can be covered with closet doors so no one will even know they are there.

The front-loading washing machine is redesigning several laundry rooms to have a new, modern style. Front-loading washing machines have space for larger items like comforters and quilts and they extract more water from the clothes, allowing you to save on your energy bill because they don't take as long to dry. If you are looking to save money, a stem washer may be a great option for you. A steam washer uses up to 70% less energy and 50% less water than a traditional washing machine.

Organizing your laundry room is an easy way to remodel your washing room. Consider purchasing a flat table that you can use to fold clothes on after they come out of the dyer to help you avoid wrinkles. Different clothes bins can be added to help your sort the laundry by colors, or family members.

As you are remodeling your laundry room, consider a fresh coat of paint. A bright color will help freshen the room and make the room more enjoyable to visit when you are doing laundry. A new coat of paint is a cheap and easy way to make an old laundry room look new.

Call a builder if you need help in the planning or in doing the whole job. Beware when water and electric lines are involved.
