Membership Drive for Friends of the Blanco Library Begins
Wednesday, September 22, 2010 • Posted September 21, 2010

The membership drive for the Friends of the Blanco Library begins on September 25, 2010 and will conclude with the Antique Appraisal and Document Collection Event on November 6, 2010. Friends of the Blanco Library membership is very important to the Blanco Library. All money collected from memberships is used to purchase books for the library. Like everything else, the cost of books has gone up. Last year’s memberships provided an average of just under $400 per month to purchase books that library patrons want to read. We would like memberships to provide at least $500 per month and are hoping you will join us in reaching this goal. Please help us by joining Friends.

Membership in Friends has its benefits. For example, last year there was a special presentation for members on desktop publishing. Participants were shown the basic principles of desktop publishing and how they applied to a variety of documents. These principals could then be applied to business cards, newsletters and other publications the participants produced. The presentation was very well received. This and other presentations will be offered “free” to members during 2011. Submit your membership forms so you may participate.

Members also help in raising other funds for the benefit of the library. Last year these funds paid for a monitoring system to reduce vandalism at the library. They also helped fund the NASA exhibit and other special programs at the library. While you do not have to participate in the planning and carrying out of these events, they are a great opportunity to work with some fun individuals and meet some great people. We especially enjoyed meeting people at rest stop 9 of the Real Ale Bike Ride.

Becoming a member of Friends of Blanco Library may be accomplished by completing a membership form and returning it with your dues. Membership forms are mailed to past members. If you do not receive a membership form, stop by the library and obtain one and, while you are there, check out the books and displays. Be sure to include a valid email address, so you may be informed of members only events.

Get involved in Friends. Everything we do helps to support the Blanco Community.
