Physical food perishes but spiritual food endures. Jesus once said, "Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him" (John 6:27). Physical food is necessary and sustains us in the here and now, but there is something more, much more. Man needs more than to eat, drink and sleep. Without the principals of God that give guidance and real healing to our souls, we are indeed the walking dead. Paul said concerning the Ephesians, before they came to Christ, they were "dead in [their] trespasses and sins..." (Ephesians 2:1). Should we not welcome meal time with the living word as a beggar would make haste to his next meal?

A name written in the books of men will perish but one's name written in the book of life will endure. When the final day comes and the books are opened, will your name be found in the book of life? Paul mentions certain co-workers in Philippians 4:3 and says of them that their names are in the book of life (Philippians 4:3). Men often strive to have their name in lights, carved in stone or mentioned in books of honor, but all these shall perish and only God's book will remain. Only through Jesus Christ and His saving gospel can our names be found there. Let all men repent and be baptized into Christ (Acts 2:38) for the remission of their sins. God would have all men to be saved. Let us trust and obey for there is no other way.

Treasures upon the earth perish but treasures in heaven endure. The wonderful promise of Jesus tell us that it is so. "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal" (Matthew 6:19-29). Many find in this life that what seems like a good investment often is not. One who through faith labors for His Lord will not be disappointed in the return.
