Community Bible Church Moving to Two Services
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 • Posted September 28, 2010

After completing construction of a new 500-person facility just one year ago, Community Bible Church—Bulverde will soon offer two services to accommodate the growing crowds each Sunday morning. Beginning on October 3, services will be offered at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Currently, total attendance is at the 470 mark, with many of the children’s classes needing to be capped because of overcrowding. Pastor Larry Andrews said that moving to two services is necessary to accommodate worship and classroom attendance.

“We do not want to have to close classrooms that are overcrowded, and we don’t want to be so crowded that people can’t sit with their families or friends they’ve invited,” Andrews said. “Everyone who comes into our church is important, and we want them to feel welcome and comfortable.”

Andrews attributes much of the welcoming atmosphere to the friendly volunteers who work under the direction of J.D. Clary in the Guest Services Department. Each Sunday, dozens of people show up early to set up coffee and donuts, direct traffic, greet arriving families, and answer questions at the Connection Center.

“We adhere to the idea that everybody wants to feel welcome and important,” Clary said. “Smiles are contagious, and our people love people.”

Four years ago, the congregation totaled 45 people on an average Sunday and met in a tent behind The Loft Coffee House. Andrews said the 1000 percent growth rate is not because of any plan or marketing scheme, but simply the natural result of people inviting their friends to church.

“People seem to like the comfortable, relaxed, fun atmosphere with the contemporary worship style and the simple, practical message, and they have told their neighbors,” Andrews said. “We don’t have goals or aspirations about our church getting bigger, we really just want to reach, teach and help as many people as God sends to us.”
