The 8th grade Panthers shined defensively in game #2 vs Sonora. After a turnover on downs on the opening series, the Broncos were stuffed with tackles for losses by Grant Garrow; on the ensuing punt attempt, Hunter Goodman tackled the punter to give Blanco great field position.

Aikman Elrod put up the first score, dashing around the right side for a three-yard score. Sonora answered quickly after a pass completion to the 1-yard line, and matched the Panthers 6-6.

After driving to mid-field, Carson Kipp completed a 45-yard halfback pass to McKay Adamson for another Panther score. Grant Calzoncit netted a QB sack in forcing Sonora to punt on their next series, and, just before the half expired, Aikman Elrod connected with McKay Adamson on a 19-yard TD pass, giving Blanco an 18-6 lead at the half.

On the Broncos’ first series in the third quarter, Grant Calzoncit and Jake Breeding applied great pressure, forcing the Bronco QB to attempt an errant pitch, which Devlin Moore intercepted mid-air and dashed in for a 12-yard score. Carson Kipp bashed in for the conversion, and Blanco went up 26-6.

More stellar defense from Grant Calzoncit, Grant Garrow, Dru Ramirez, and Alex Juarez forced another punt, and Kyle Gray capped the Panther scoring with a 9-yard TD run.

On the Bronco’s final possession, Andrew Burgess netted a QB sack, Kyle Gray knocked down two passes, and Dylan Tesch intercepted a deep pass attempt.

Carson Kipp again shredded the defense, averaging over 9 yards per carry, picking up 105 yards on 11 attempts, and was 1-1 passing for 45 yards and one touchdown.

The Panthers take on Mountain Valley on September 30, which will be their home opener this Thursday.
