Dear Editor,

Since moving back to Blanco in ’95, it’s been a rare occasion that we’ve missed a football game. The support this town has for our team is tremendous, and it’s also the ‘norm’ for us fans to discuss past success’s and compare the current year team to those of previous years.

It is amazing what people do and do not remember about the 2000 team. Everyone knows they dominated opponents in the playoffs, were the first team to make it to the state championship game, and nearly won it all.

What a lot of people don’t remember, is that the 2000 team lost three of their first five games, starting district play with a 2-3 record. That team also finished 2nd in district, losing to Comfort, and finished the regular season at 6-4. But they never stopped working hard, continued to improve throughout the season, and believed in their potential—and they showed us the results with our first ever state championship appearance!

This year’s team is no different than the 2000 team; the players have tons of potential and are getting better every week. So everyone keep rooting them on and I think they will shock us and many opponents in district play and the playoffs.
