Retired Educators Assoc. Set to Meet at Silver K in J.C. on Thursday
Wednesday, October 13, 2010 • Posted October 12, 2010

The Blanco County Association of Retired Educators will meet Thursday, October 21, at 11:30 a.m. at the Silver K Restaurant at 208 E. Main in Johnson City. Lunch is available for members, who will be responsible for the selection and cost of their own individual meals.

Each current BCARE member is encouraged to bring a retired educator friend with them to the meeting. There are 150 people who retired from the Texas education system living in Blanco County and receiving pensions. These people are eligible for membership in the local BCARE unit and the state-wide Texas Retired Teachers Association. Local dues are only $5 for the year. State organization dues are $30 per year.

The program for this quarter will be presented by Kim Kahn, Investor Education Coordinator of the Texas State Securities Board, and will focus on how to avoid investment pitfalls. District president, Ruth Spear, will be the special guest for the day.

TRTA’s mission this year is to work to introduce legislation to provide a pension increase for retirees. Teacher Retirement System annuitants need an increase in their pension benefits in order to meet the increasing financial demands of today’s economy. More people united toward this end make a louder voice for all. Come. Join. Unite.
