The Blanco Panthers traveled to Ingram this past Friday to begin district play against the Warriors. Although Ingram entered the game with the same 2 and 3 record as the Panthers, the Warriors proved to be no match as Blanco jumped out to a 49 to 0 halftime lead before cruising to a 55 to 14 district win.
Blanco wasted little time in finding the end zone as Kyle Garrow started the game returning the opening kick-off for a school record 105 yard touchdown. TJ Raby followed with the first of seven consecutive extra points to make the score 7 to 0. Kyle also added the Panthers’ next score of the game on a 6 yard run to close out the first quarter. Blanco put the game away in the second quarter scoring five times. QB Tanner Rogers struck first with a 49 yard pass play to SE Grant Weaver. Kyle Garrow added a third score on the night with a 9 yard run before Rogers connected for a second TD pass, this time to TE Travis McClinton from 50 yards out. Rogers then added the fourth score of the quarter on a 1 yard plunge. Blanco finally closed out the half on Kyle Garrow’s fourth score of the night on a 5 yard run. Following another successful Raby PAT, the Panthers were up 49 to 0 at the half.
The second half of play saw plenty of action for the second and third teamers from Blanco. Sr. Kyle Holmes moved over to the offensive side of the ball and ate up big chunks of yardage including the Panthers’ only score of the half on a 20 yard run. The Warriors finally managed to find some success scoring twice on runs of 3 and 23 yards, however it proved to be too little too late as Blanco evened their season record at 3 and 3 while opening district at 1 and 0 with a 55 to 14 victory.
For the game, the Panther offense tallied 360 yards and picked up 16 first downs. On the ground, Kyle Holmes led the way with 85 yards on 9 carries, while Tanner Rogers added 186 yards through the air on a perfect night completing all 7 of his passes. However, senior Kyle Garrow stole the spot light with 4 TD’s and over 200 all-purpose yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Blanco forced a season high 6 turnovers highlighted by 2 interceptions from Gavin Garrow and a 3rd from Weston Copenhaver. The Panther “D” also forced 5 fumbles, recovering 3.
Blanco will now return home to face the Marion Bulldogs in what should prove to be an exciting homecoming game as Marion enters the contest following a huge win over Comfort last week to ruin the Bobcats’ homecoming. Both Marion and Blanco will begin the game at 3 and 3 and 1 and 0 in district play with hopes of moving one step closer to a district title. Kick-off at Panther Stadium is set for 7:30pm.
