Russell Kirkscey, Blanco High School speech and debate coach, will become president of the Texas Speech Communication Association in 2013. Kirkscey was elected at the annual conference in October to serve a four-year term, beginning in 2011 as vice-president elect. He will serve as vice president in 2012, as president in 2013, and as immediate past-president in 2014.

The TSCA has over 500 members, ranging from middle school teachers to university professors. It is the largest state professional communication association in the nation.

According to the TSCA website, “Membership in TSCA is open to any communication educator, communication student, communication consultant, or any individual interested in learning about the field of speech communication. All levels of instruction and areas of interests are represented in the association. The rewards of membership in TSCA include updated professional awareness, networking with other professionals, and exposure to innovation, teaching methodologies, and scholarly works relevant to the discipline of speech communication.”

Kirkscey’s responsibilities will include supervising committee chairs, organizing the 2012 state conference, and representing TSCA in communicating with organizations such as the Texas State Board of Education and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
