7th Grade Panthers Beat Bobcats 22-6
Wednesday, October 27, 2010 • Posted October 26, 2010

Blanco took on the Comfort Bobcats this past week… maybe one of their biggest rivals. The young Blanco Panthers drove out of Comfort with all the bragging rights winning 22-6. The 7th grade Panthers didn’t do much passing, but ran for over 270 yards and their defense held the Bobcats to 125 yards.

Comfort received the opening kickoff and was able to drive the ball as far as Blanco’s 30 yard line but their drive came to an end when Dustin Parmely hunted down the quarter back on a busted pass play thanks to the Panthers’ defensive secondary… Blanco took over on downs on their own 30 yard line. Blanco came out running starting with a couple of runs from Adrien Dominguez for 26 yards. With a couple of runs from Chase Horton and Eddie Torres, Blanco moved the ball down to Comfort’s 33 when Adrien Dominguez broke one up the middle for Blanco’s first TD. The PAT was a successful pass from Jordan Wagner to Chase Horton, putting the Panthers out front 8-0. Blanco’s defense fell short on Comfort’s next drive which started at their 30 yard-line. The Bobcats were able to march down and score. The PAT was no good but Comfort used up a lot of the clock in the process. On the ensuing kickoff, Comfort was fortunate to recover their own kick off; but Blanco stopped them and took over on downs. With only seconds left in the half, Eddie Torres made a great effort running for 25 yards before he was forced out of bounds, but it ended there when the 1st half expired.

The second half started with Blanco’s offense at their 40 yard-line. The running combination of Adrien Dominquez and Chase Horton gave Blanco a first down on comfort’s 48. Two plays later, Eddie Torres found daylight up the middle and sprinted 44 yards for Blanco’s 2nd TD. Adrien Dominguez ran in the PAT and put the score at 16-6, Blanco. Blanco held Comfort’s next offensive series and they were forced to punt. The Panthers started at their 16 and moved the ball to their own 30. The Panthers had a 3rd and 10 when Eddie Torres ran to the left, but quickly reversed direction when he was met by a swarm of Bobcats and ran 70 yards for Blanco’s 3rd TD, PAT failed but kept Blanco in the lead, 22-6. Comfort’s offense came back looking like they did on their earlier drive that produced a TD, but the Panther’s finally held and took over on downs. The Panthers began their last drive on their 35 yard-line. Running back Ryan Ronces was given the ball 5 straight times and with 3rd and 10 he got it again. Ronces was supplied with a big hole to start with, but it collapsed fast. He was first hit 2 yards past the line of scrimmage by 2 bobcats. Those two held on but Ronces was still going. It was like one new Bobcat added on trying to bring him down for each 2 yards he ran. Ronces pounded for 17 yards and carried as many as 9 Bobcats doing it until he was finally brought down. Ronces had so much of the opposing team on him; you couldn’t even see him running the ball. The game ended there. Blanco is now 5-1, 3-0 for District and take on Lago Vista next.

Stats: Eddie Torres – 4 carries for 144 yards, and 2 touchdowns; Adrien Dominguez – 7 carries for 80 yards and 1 touchdown; Dustin Parmely – 5 carries for 20 yards; Ryan Ronces – 4 carries for 23 yards.
